The recently unveiled Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) has received the prestigious five-star Skytrax rating, recognizing its exemplary customer service and operational excellence. This rating is part of the Skytrax World Airport Star Rating system, which evaluates airports worldwide on a scale from one to five stars.
So far, only three airports in North America boast this top-tier rating: LaGuardia’s Terminal B, William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, and now, Newark Liberty’s Terminal A.
According to Kevin O’Toole, Chairman of the Port Authority, Terminal A stands as a paragon of excellence. “Receiving five stars marks us among the elite, yet we always knew Terminal A was something special. From its impressive architecture to its efficient layout and captivating local art, we aimed high and have clearly succeeded, marking New Jersey’s Terminal A as a premium entry among global airports,” he stated.
Spanning over 1 million square feet, Terminal A came to life in stages throughout 2023, powered by a robust $2.7 billion investment. In its debut year alone, it successfully catered to 15 million passengers, surpassing the traffic of its predecessor significantly.
Among its features are cutting-edge passenger amenities such as a sensory room tailored for individuals with disabilities and a children’s library. The terminal also showcases local art, a dedicated area for children to play, innovative digital technologies, and an array of dining and shopping options reflecting the local culture.
Additionally, Terminal A has garnered several accolades and recognitions since its inauguration. Noteworthy amongst these is the 2023 UNESCO Prix Versailles Special Prize for its architectural exterior, coupled with a LEED gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.
Rick Cotton, Executive Director of the Port Authority, reflected on the achievement, “Receiving the Skytrax five-star rating elevates Terminal A into an exclusive category. With both LaGuardia’s Terminal B and now Newark’s Terminal A holding this distinction, we’re honored to showcase our commitment to delivering top-tier facilities that reflect the excellence of this region,” he commented.
